VIX FIX: Interest Rates Peaks Volatility’s Interest
Major indexes took a nose dive on Friday, placing them in negative territory for the week. With the Fed making noise that an interest rate hike by year end was possible, the Dow dropped more than 300 points intraday, while the CBOE Volatility Index (VIX) rose above its 200-day moving average to over 16. As the case for an interest rate hike strengthens and Election Day approaches, volatility may continue climbing.
