Read frequently asked questions about Regular Trading Hours vs. Global/Curb Trading Hours.
Given the closeness of times between RTH and GTH/Curb, will these trading sessions overlap or be independent?
Cboe believes a distinction between the early GTH or after-market Curb session versus RTH sessions makes sense as it provides customers with a choice of sessions for their orders. For example, some may not want to be represented during the GTH or Curb sessions.
Below is a summary of times, sessions, OPRA channels, OPRA trade condition codes, and last sale eligibility.
| Product | Time | Session | OPRA Channels | OPRA Trade Conditions | Last Sale Eligible |
|---|
| Index | 8:15 p.m. – 9:25 a.m. ET | GTH | GTH | Standard | No |

Will the current convention of marking orders as RTH Only, RTH+Curb, or All Sessions be used for session eligibility (FIX Tag 22017)? Will open orders automatically carry over between the GTH and RTH sessions?
Orders marked for All Sessions will automatically carry over and be actionable across all sessions. Those marked RTH Only will not be actionable during the GTH or Curb sessions. Those marked RTH+Curb will be actionable during the RTH and Curb sessions.
What happens if SessionEligibility (FIX Tag 22017) is set to A (All Sessions) or B (RTH + Curb) for a symbol that is not on the GTH-eligible equity options class list?
The order will not be rejected. C1 will accept the order and treat it as RTH-only, regardless of the session eligibility value specified. Firms should not assume that submitting a GTH/Curb session tag for a non-eligible symbol will result in a rejection — the extended-hours designation will simply be ignored and the order will rest until the RTH open at 9:30 a.m. ET.
Firms are encouraged to maintain their own eligibility logic to avoid unintentional resting of orders at the open. The current list of GTH-eligible equity options classes will be published on the Cboe website and updated on a semi-annual basis.
Did Cboe consider including the 4:00 – 4:15 p.m. ET window as part of RTH rather than designating it as a separate Curb session?
Cboe's current rule filing considers the 4:00 - 4:15 p.m. ET session as part of the Curb session. Cboe carefully considered extensive customer feedback regarding whether the 4:00 - 4:15 p.m. ET session should be designated as an extension of RTH or as a separate Curb session. While Cboe recognizes that multiple ETF and index option classes already trade until 4:15 p.m. ET as part of RTH, there are significant risk profile differences between ETF/Index products and single stocks. To offer an Exchange-provided mechanism that gives brokers and their customers flexibility and mitigates risk of adverse experiences for customers, Cboe will maintain separate trading sessions and allow users to designate their own preferences for session eligibility. It is not necessary for firms to connect to different Cboe ports for RTH versus other sessions. Rather, a firm connects to the Exchange via ports allowing access to all sessions, then marks their orders with a simple FIX or BOE tag to indicate the session(s) in which an order will be actionable.
When will expiring equity single stock options stop trading, and how are closing and settlement prices determined?
Expiring equity single stock options will trade until 4:00 p.m. ET as part of RTH and 4:15 p.m. ET in the Curb session on expiration day due to their American-style physical settlement, allowing traders to close positions rather than take or deliver shares. This is consistent with the close time for expiring ETF options trading until 4:15 p.m. ET but differs from expiring SPXW PM-settled index options which stop trading at 4:00 p.m. ET given their European-style cash settlement. In all cases, OCC marks closing and/or settlement prices based on the 4:00 p.m. ET National Best Bid and Offer (NBBO). OCC also bases in/out-of-the-money determination based on the 4:00 p.m. ET closing price of the underlying equity security.
Will there be a 4:00 p.m. ET snap of the options prices for the prime brokers to use for marks, so the options prices and the underlying closing prices are aligned?
Cboe will provide "smoothed" NBBOs based on 4:00 p.m. ET and 4:15 p.m. ET snapshots for any equity options that Cboe trades after 4:00 p.m. ET. Cboe already does this for its proprietary index options and will modify the files to include the equity classes in the new program. The CSV files are available via the Cboe website, and the values are also disseminated to OPRA.
Will the volatility moderators that exist during Regular, GTH, and Curb hours apply to the new GTH and Curb sessions?
Cboe will automatically halt trading upon receipt of regulatory halt indicators from the SIP and also maintain flexibility to declare manual halts in the interest of fair and orderly markets. Wide Market Protections may be considered based on customer feedback and demand.
Will equity options executed in the GTH or Curb sessions be considered last trade eligible and count toward the daily high/low?
No. GTH and Curb session trades are not last trade eligible and do not count toward the daily high/low. Cboe will mark these trades with an Extended Hours "v" sale condition when reporting GTH and Curb trades to the OPRA RTH system.
What complex functionality will be available during the GTH or Curb sessions?
Complex trading will be available in both GTH and Curb trading sessions. Complex instruments that contain a stock leg will only trade during RTH and Curb and will not be eligible to trade during GTH.
Are all order types supported during GTH and Curb sessions?
No. Market orders, stop orders, and stop-limit orders are not accepted during GTH or Curb sessions and will be rejected at order entry if submitted with a GTH or Curb session eligibility designation. Only limit orders are accepted during the new GTH and Curb sessions.
If a routable order submitted during the GTH session is still resting on C1 at the RTH open (9:30 a.m. ET), will C1 attempt to route it to away markets if better prices are available following the 9:30 a.m. ET opening?
Yes. Orders that are live on C1 at the RTH open will be rehandled following the Opening Process at 9:30 a.m. ET. If a resting order is marketable against an away market at that time, C1 will route the order accordingly — firms do not need to cancel and resubmit their orders prior to the RTH open to achieve best execution. This applies to orders designated for All Sessions (tag 22017 = A) or RTH + Curb (tag 22017 = B) that remain live and unexecuted as system transitions from the GTH session into RTH.
Will the floor be available during the GTH or the Curb trading sessions?
No, the Cboe Trading Floor is only available during RTH for all symbols.
