Structured Products at the Chicago Board Options Exchange represent a new type of investment vehicle. They are similar to all options in that they have an expiration date and like index options are cash-settled. Each of the Structured Products listed at CBOE has an individualized and unique makeup. Structured Products trade like a stock via the stock system and require stock qualifications. They also have a limited number of outstanding contracts available. Structured Products are cleared through the National Securities Clearing Corporation (NSCC) contrary to traditional options which are cleared through the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC). The Capital Markets Division at CBOE assesses the concept, develops the instrument, provides regulatory guidance, brings the product to the market, and disseminates the information for these innovative products.
