When CBOE initiated listed options trading in 1973, it began offering call options on 16 stocks. Now CBOE offers call and put options on a variety of securities, including stock indexes, volatility indexes, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), exchange traded notes (ETNs) and thousands of publicly listed stocks. In 2014 CBOE Futures Exchange began offering almost around-the-clock trading of futures on the popular CBOE Volatility Index® (VIX®).
